What’s the different between community and competitive?

Community League is open to all skill and experience levels. This is a league for beginner-intermediate skill levels, and/or for those who are more interested in a laid-back, recreational experience.

Competitive League caters to high skilled and experienced softball players. These games are fast-paced and, naturally, more competitive in nature. Players in this league should have considerable playing experience.

What is the age range of players?

This varies season to season. Typically, the largest age group is between age 21-30, but women ages 17 to 70 have enjoyed playing with us! Age minimum is 17 by the first game.

Do we play on holidays?

Some. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, yes. Independence Day, Memorial Weekend, Labor Day Weekend, no.

What do I do if I need to miss a game?

Notify your team captain AHEAD OF TIME and FIND A SUBSTITUTE for yourself. Your team needs to know of your absence as soon as possible, especially if you need some help finding a sub. There is nothing worse than showing up to your game to find you will be short players.

Can I play as a substitute?

Anyone ages 17+ can play as a substitute, even players from other teams, until playoffs. There will be NO use of substitutes during playoffs or tournament play.

What rules and regulations does WMS follow?

We operate under the most recent edition of USSSA rules. All of our officials are certified USSSA umpires.

What equipment is provided?

Game balls will be provided to team captains at the beginning of the season, home team is responsible for providing the game ball. Basic beginner-level bats are provided in each dugout (approx. 2-3 per game). WMS provides a catchers helmet per field (to be shared between teams, as desired), and basic first-aid supplies which are kept in the equipment shed.

Is previous softball experience necessary?

Not necessarily. Our Community League is an accessible league for women of all skill levels to better their game and connect with other women from the community through recreational play. Our Competitive League is catered to players with high skill levels and game knowledge associated with years of experience.
